Monthly Favorites | August 2015

Thursday, September 3, 2015

I haven't done a monthly favorites post since last OCTOBER! Almost a year...which is crazy because I love reading/watching other people's monthly favorites posts/video. I was super excited to do an August favorites post because I tried out a ton of new products and had a couple new ideas of what categories to include in my post!

Favorite Beauty

August '15 Beauty Favorites

I bought these products towards the beginning of the month and they were quickly integrated into my beauty routine! The mascara and the foundation have been used every single day since I have bought them and I am obsessed. Also, I find myself wearing the silver powder as a mask about twice a week! I will probably have a more in depth review of these things coming up as a post later because they are well loved and I want to share!

Favorite Memory

For John's birthday back in June, I bought us tickets to go see the Beach Boys play in downtown Portland on the waterfront! He is in love with the beachy and carefree vibe of their music, and I am in love with all music pre-2005...The concert was amazing and although I was nervous that they wouldn't sound like they used to, since they are getting up there in age, the Beach Boys were awesome performers. They whipped through almost 40 songs and I sang along to so many of them (as did everyone else in the audience!). This is one of my favorite memories of the summer because it was a beautiful night, we were right on the water and we were so happy to be enjoying such a classic American band!

Favorite Place

The beach! Although I didn't get to go as much as I would have liked (thanks to the rain on my off days), the beach was absolutely my happy place for the month of August. Whenever I went, I felt so relaxed and carefree and on those days I felt so much better about everything that was going on.

Favorite Blogger/Vlogger

Jaclyn Hill videos played on my YouTube app nonstop through the month of August! She is such a talented makeup artist and hilarious as well. She just released a highlighter at Sephora and I just can't even imagine how surreal it must be for her to walk into the store and have her own product there. She is absolutely an inspiration for me because she is so positive with all things in her life and has achieved so much at a young age.

What were some things you loved in the month of August?

Vacationland

Thursday, July 17, 2014

Today's prompt is "all about your city", but I would prefer to talk about my home state of Maine! For the most part, I grew up in Maine but I had to go to college in Virginia to *reallllly* appreciate what an amazing place Maine is.
I live in southern Maine, and I am just a few minutes from the beach. I could easily ride my bike but lets face it, we all know I am too lazy. Anyway, I absolutely love going to the beach in the summer. I try to go at least once a week. It is just so relaxing to lay there with my feet in the warm sand, listening to the waves crash and then running into the water when the sun becomes too hot to bear.
Not only is Maine the perfect summer state, but fall/winter are perfect seasons too (I don't like spring no matter where I am)! The leaves changing and the crisp autumn air are picturesque...its no wonder why so many artists and authors find so much inspiration here. As far as winter goes, even though its super cold and snowy, it allows for some of the best skiing in the country. I skied a lot when I was much younger...I would be nervous to try it again now! Definitely would stick to the bunny slope... or perhaps just stay in the lodge by the fireplace?

Now I see that I have talked a lot about the weather, but I swear there is more to Maine than the sky! There is an awesome downtown in Portland with cobblestone streets (that are impossible to walk on in heels), boat rides, blue lakes, lighthouses, seafood, and the coastal attitudes!
If you ever get the chance, Maine (also known as Vacationland) is worth the trip!

First Beach Day of Summer!

Thursday, June 19, 2014

This is just a quick post, but I just had to share my day with the world! If you read my What I'm Looking Forward To for May (click here to read it), you'll know that I was in desperate need of some good weather and today I was in luck! My work days this week were switched yesterday and I had an unexpected day off today. I slept in, enjoyed coffee in my favorite mug, and caught up on all the YouTube videos and blog posts that I hadn't watched/read in a few days. Towards the late morning I decided that the weather was way too nice for me to sit inside and hibernate all day, so I decided to head down to the beach.  I am only a six minute drive from the beach so its easy just to get my stuff together and go over! I asked one of my best friends to go with me and I loved catching up with her while having the lovely view of the ocean in front of us. It was the perfect afternoon and I cannot wait for all the beach days I am going to have this summer!

We kept having to move our chairs up the beach because the tide was coming in!

Be sure to follow me on bloglovin' if you want to read more about my future beach visits and tips!

What I'm Looking Forward To: May 2014

Friday, May 23, 2014

I apologize for disappearing for a week...I watched the first episode of the House of Cards on Netflix last Saturday and that lead to me watching the two seasons in 5 days. Embarrassing or impressive? You can decide. Anyway, to continue on with our scheduled programming, I wanted to write about a couple things (both big and small) I am really looking forward to/just really excited about this month:
1. My New Job
I start next week and I can't wait! Its different than any job I've ever had before (and more difficult), but I think its going to be worth it for the invaluable experience I will be getting. I don't want to write too much about it because I am slightly superstitious and don't want to jinx anything so this is all I will say for now!
2. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's Wedding
I spent a good chunk of my day watching the Keeping Up With the Kardashian marathon on E! today in order to get my hopes up that the internet will be hit with a slew of pictures of the wedding tomorrow. I am most excited to see pictures of Kim's wedding gown...I'm imagining something as opulent as the venue?! I was sad to learn that they will be not filming the wedding for the show, and as I was unable to secure myself an invite, I will just have to hope that a sneaky wedding guest will leak some pictures!
3. Bedding for New Apartment
A few weeks ago, I moved out of my sorority house and in the fall I will be moving into an apartment near school thus giving me an excuse to buy new bedding for a new room! With Memorial Day Weekend upon us, my inbox has been inundated with emails about special store sales and I thought it might be a good idea to start looking at duvet covers and decorative pillows with the hopes of getting a good deal. Much to my luck, I found nothing in my price range that I liked so let's just cross our fingers and toes for a good Fourth of July sale?
4. Warm Weather
The past few days here in Maine have been chilly and raining. Being on summer break, I really hate this and wish I could snap my fingers to make it 80 degrees outside and sunny. Lately, I have found myself obsessing over the weather and can't help but constantly long for the beach. Unfortunately in Maine, the good summer weather does not descend upon us until July, meaning I still have five weeks of dreary cold weather with maybe a few "nice" days spread about ("nice"= 65 degrees and partly cloudy). Just give me my beach weather Mother Earth!!
I took this picture on my last beach day I had last summer!

What are you looking forward to or excited about?
