10 Ways to Procrastinate Studying for Finals

Monday, April 27, 2015

Since I have seen a lot of posts recently on surviving finals week... I thought I would give you some of my personal favorite procrastination tips just in case you aren't ready to spend endless hours in the library staring at a study guide with highlighter all over your hands and coffee spilled down your favorite sweatshirt. For those of you who are fortunate enough to be passed the college phase of your life, I want to know what your tips are for surviving finals week, especially when the forecast says its going to be 80 degrees and gorgeously sunny outside.

1. Watch Game of Thrones
and wonder how many times a month the actress who plays Daenerys Targaryen needs to dye her hair to keep it that blonde.

2. Scroll through your own Instagram
and reminisce about better times (like when you weren't in the library). Loved this pic from this past weekend at Foxfield!

A photo posted by Meghan Farrell (@mfarrelll14) on

3. Bake cookies
because calories don't count during finals.

4. Learn how to make a killer paper airplane
so your friend can literally send a guy her number from across the room.

5. Rearrange your Pinterest board

6. Watch the Bruce Jenner interview
and be amazed by some people's bravery to show their true selves to the world.

7. Try on your summer clothes
to just get you excited for summer...anyone else do this?

8. Flood your BFFs snapchat with very unflattering pics
does this need more explanation?

9. Take a nap
the answer for everything

10. Schedule out every hour of your day
and then ignore it because you are not yet at the panicking stage of finals week.

I hope this gave you some inspiration to go get procrastinating!

**disclaimer...I swear I'm a very good student and I will do fine on my finals! I love my classes and already have study guides for all of my exams next week and have started studying for them!**

Let's be thankful for motivational quotes on Pinterest.

Friday, April 10, 2015

Happy Friday! Another week is done...thank goodness. The closer we get to summer, the happier I feel myself becoming. I hope you all had a great week and plan to have an even better weekend. Today, I am talking about five favorite things I read/watched/did/etc. this week. Let's get on with it!

1. Coffee
Coffee was my best friend this week...with two tests this week demanding my attention, to say I was melted is an understatement.  We have a Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks on campus so I feel spoiled by my coffee options!

After reading this article, I am tempted to not let anyone borrow my brushes again!

3. Game of Thrones
Who else is anxiously awaiting Sunday for the start of GoT? I am waiting until next Friday when John and I are together to watch it, but I am just happy we are so close to a new season. I am so curious to see what happens with the Stark sisters and what will happen in King's Landing...trying to be a little vague so I don't spoil anything for anyone!

4. Motivational Quotes
Looking through Pinterest for motivational quotes this week definitely gave me a little extra "umph" to keeping studying. Here are a few favorites:

5. Weekend Plans
This weekend is the last weekend of the semester that is relaxed and without any strict plans. My only real plan is that I am being inducted into alumni status in my sorority on Sunday, but I don't really want that to happen...so I am pretending like its not going to happen! Other than that, I need to get laundry done, figure out some logistics/planning for my next few weekends, and relax after this crazy week!

What are you loving this week?

Linking up with these ladies this week!

I was the kind of kid who...

I was the kind of kid who...

Had an invisible friend (is this normal? I don't know.)
~
Loved to read.
~
Played games in the woods for hours and hours.
~
Told everyone I had two stomachs...one for regular, boring food and the other one for dessert (and my dessert stomach was never too full for dessert obviously.)
~
Had an interesting music taste (among my CD collection you would find Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and Pure Disco Volumes 1, 2 AND 3...okay, and Pure Funk).
~
Was painfully shy.
~
Loved dolls...Barbies, Polly Pockets, and American Girl dolls!
~
Loved watching movies (I think my favorites were The Lion King and The Little Giants.)
~
Thought ketchup was it's own food group.
~
Was obsessed with cats.
~
Liked to sing...even if I wasn't very good at it.
~
Thought Full House and Saved By the Bell were the best shows ever.
~
Never changed. I may be taller, a little less naive, and wear more makeup...but I swear these things apply to me now(maybe not playing with dolls and in the woods), as much as they did then.

Am I Feeling 22?

Monday, February 16, 2015

So I turned 22 on Saturday!
I am actually a little sad to be writing this post because I feel like the weekend went by so fast! In typical fashion, I forgot to take pictures of the weekend (don't worry, they would have been awkwardly posed and/or of me in my pajamas, so you aren't missing anything good).
I lied, I found one picture from the weekend on my phone...donuts buried under M&Ms, Oreos and frosting from Saturday brunch!
Some years I have felt like my birthday fell behind in the excitement of Valentine's Day with my friends having dates or boyfriends that they want to see or restaurants being overcrowded with couples or people incessantly complaining about how much they hate Valentine's Day. This year, however, I truly felt satisfied with how my big day played out. I had a nice brunch and dinner with John (he came to visit!), and I got to do some much needed relaxing. Aside from fighting our way down icy roads trying to get home from dinner, the day was serene. Although it sounds simple, I cherished this lazy time because of how much rushing around I do during the week. I feel well rested and ready to tackle this crazy week ahead of me!
I don't have much more to share about this weekend, except that I ate way too much candy and that I am touched by the outpouring of love I received from my friends and family. I received some really thoughtful gifts and cards that surprised me because of how my friends pick up on my little quirks. For example, I friend I study with noticed how I bring rice cakes and a jar of peanut butter for a study snack, so she got me a pack of peanut butter "to-go" cups so I don't have to carry around the whole jar. I laughed so hard and thought it was so funny that she thought to include that in a gift. I always forget the sense of overwhelming joy that I experience on my birthday and I am so thankful for my friends and family who provide me with that joy. With every text and call I received, my eyes got a little teary because of the sweet messages that people had. They were the best presents of all!
I am sending you all some of my cheer (and candy...I wish!) to get you through this week. For those of us on the east coast, I am seeing that we are supposed to get hit with some more snow this so lets cross our fingers that the weathermen are wrong. For those of you not on the east coast, please answer your doors when you hear a knock in the middle of the night because it's me running away from this arctic blast here in Virginia!
I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day, and have an even better week!

2015 Birthday Wishlist!

Friday, January 30, 2015

Its coming up on my second favorite time of the year...MY BIRTHDAY! (If you're curious, my first favorite time of the year is December, for obvious reasons.) I am turning the big 2-2 and I think I am excited about it? A lot of my friends who have turned 22 have groaned and griped about it because all the excitement of being 21 is gone. For some reason being 22 just sounds a heck of a lot older and a bit scarier because I will enter the "real world" as a 22 year old next January. However I have to say that the best thing about turning 22 is that I am eligible for a new driver's license so I no longer have to show my 16 year-old-excited-to-have-passed-her-drivers-test-but-sweaty-from-being-so-nervous-self around at bars anymore and have the servers/bartenders say "aww, you're just a baby!"
But turning 21 last year was great because 21, duh. I didn't want a wild 21st birthday like some people do so John just took me out for nice dinner as my birthday is actually on Valentines Day! This year I am still concocting a plan of what to do to celebrate because my birthday falls on a Saturday. I was thinking since this is my first year living in an apartment, that I might have a party on the night before, and then a small dinner on my actual birthday? I have always been one to extend the birthday celebration as long I could...
Since my birthday is two weeks away from tomorrow, I thought I would share a few gifts I had my eye on!

2015 Birthday Wishlist

1. Love Tanya by Tanya Burr & Girl Online by Zoe Sugg // I love watching YouTube and especially Tanya and Zoe's videos because of their awesome beauty tips and product reviews so I want to check out their books!

2. Old Navy Cozy Socks // I got a pair of these for Christmas (with cats on them!) and they are the most comfortable socks! They are so fuzzy and warm...I would love a pair for every day of the week!

3. Tanya Burr Lip Glosses // I would love these colors the most, from left to right they are Chic, Let's Travel the World, and Afternoon Tea! I have read so many good review on these lip glosses and would love to be able to try them!

4. Sephora and Express Giftcards // I love gift cards because its like being handed an hour and someone saying "go shop". Its the gift of an afternoon to just relax and pick out some awesome clothes or beauty products!

5. Plaid Blanket Scarf from Target // I have been dying to get my hands on one of these before it becomes Spring and too late to wear one!

6. Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham & Bossypants by Tina Fey // Both of these ladies are so successful and creative with what they do. They are definitely women I look up to, so I would love to read these books.

Best Movies of 2014

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Do you hear that noise? Its the sweet sound of being done with finals. No more studying. No more quizzing myself. No more rewarding myself for a good study session with chocolate chips.  I always seem to forget how bad finals week is, between the lack of sleep and the stress of reviewing a whole semester's worth of information in just a few weeks. Fortunately, it is over and I did well! To make things even better, I am home and well-rested (and well fed)! It took a couple days to get it back, but I am anxious to put my blog mojo to good use! I have so much catching up to do...I am sad about how much I have missed the past two weeks in the blogging world! I am dedicating tomorrow to catching up on all the posts I've missed (and maybe wrapping some presents!)
In my last post, I mentioned that I am a lover of all things related to TV/movies, so I thought I would continue on with that subject in this post. I love going to the movies, so I compiled a few of my favorites that came out this year!

1. Guardians of the Galaxy
I am not sure if I have mentioned this before on the blog, but I love superhero movies...especially Marvel ones! When I saw first heard about Guardians of the Galaxy was coming out, not only was I excited for a new superhero, but also for Chris Pratt, duh. I loved that his character formed a team of mismatched heroes and they totally left the ending opening up for a sequel!

2. Neighbors
When I saw the commercial for this movie, I laughed and thought that I had just seen all the funny parts in the movie. My school offered a free showing of this movie so I thought I would go, just to see if maybe there was more to it. I think I only saw 50% of the movie because I was laughing too hard to pay attention. I am a big Seth Rogen fan, and it was funny for him to play a "dad" character.

3. Tammy
So I saw this in theaters in the spring when it first came out and if I had been asked afterwards what I thought, I think I would have said "ehh". I really didn't appreciate the movie until I saw it again in the fall. Some parts are kind of cheesy and other parts make you feel painfully awkward for Melissa McCarthy's character, but overall its funny and heartwarming. I love movies that make you feel a whole range of emotion, and this definitely does that!

4. 22 Jump Street
Ugh, is this embarassing? Movies that make me laugh out will always rank near the top of my list! What I liked about this movie is that there was a lot of dialogue poking fun at the fact that is was a sequel and who doesn't love seeing Channing Tatum running around as an undercover cop?!

5. Gone Girl
This is the only drama movie on the list, and I know that there should be more, but I like comedy okay?? I liked this movie so much because it stayed true to the book (probably because the author also wrote the screenplay). If any of you have not read the book, I would suggest reading it before seeing the movie! Actually, is there anyone who wouldn't suggest reading the book before seeing the movie when it comes to movies made from books?!

I know my list is cheesy and if you don't like comedies, then you probably rolled your eyes a lot during this post. But its okay, because I know I have a weird taste in movies! Let me know some of your favorite movies of 2014!

Who are you and what do you know? As told by Buzzfeed.

Tuesday, December 9, 2014

As I am in the middle of finals week, I took a study break to share with you one of my favorite study break past times-- Buzzfeed.com quizzes. I have definitely shared a few on here before, but I thought I would collect a few of my favorites and share!

14 out of 15

Morello

14 out of 29 (Guys, this was super hard...please take it and tell me what movie #26 came from because I have no clue!)

Glinda

54 out of 99...I watch too many movies..

12 out of 15...I repeat, too many movies.

8 out of 14 (I don't know, Margo!)

I am obviously a big TV/movie person so all of these are related to that, as you can see. If you take a quiz, let me know your results so we can compare!

PS. Big thank you to Buzzfeed for getting me through my finals.

PPS. Many more posts to come next week, along with endless comments on all of your blogs. One more final left and two days until I am home! For all of you in the same boat...we got this!

Wouldn't it be cool if...

Wouldn't it be cool if...

...iPhones had wireless printing capabilities

...Netflix had a wider range of movies (I have seen so many, I am nearly running out...not true but almost..)

...Tuesday nights weren't the loud party nights on my street

...There was an app that generated clever/sappy/thoughtful/whatever mood you wanted Instagram captions for you

...Blogger had a more mobile friendly platform so I could write posts on the go

...Our brains allowed us to remember more after hearing something once (imagine how much less time I would have to study)

via

...People were nicer to each other and did more random acts of kindness

...There was another day between Sunday and Monday

...Instead of having a washer and a dryer, it was combined into one appliance

...Phones and laptops had batteries that we could switch out so we wouldn't have to bring chargers out and about

...There were coffee fountains like there are water fountains

via

I always think in terms of "wouldn't it be cool if" so I though it would be fun to share! Does anyone else have these thoughts? Comment with your own "wouldn't it be cool if"! Can't wait to read them!

Dear younger Meghan,

Monday, October 27, 2014

I wonder if this letter will be read by 12 year old Meghan, who is awkward and doesn't have a lot of self-confidence or by 16 year old Meghan who wore jeans with sneakers to school on the reg and had no clue it wasn't okay. Or maybe 13 year old Meghan who thought she looked weird in ponytails so she only wore her hair down and straight.
8th grade graduation...I had finally broken the straight hair streak!

No matter what age you are, I want to tell you to have more confidence in yourself! You have your own style and thats okay! You look fine with your hair pulled back, and it doesn't have to be perfectly straight. You are smart and you should let your guard down so more people can see how funny you are (relatively speaking). Don't be afraid of being a little more outgoing and get over the horrendous shy quality of yours. Although, you did play that mysterious card well (actually more like the weird card).
Start your blog sooner! You have literally wanted your own website since you were 10 years old, so I don't know why it will take you until you are 21 to actually hit publish. Also, stop telling yourself/others that you aren't creative. Creativity isn't just like painting and drawing, but it is things like makeup and this blog! Embrace your love of makeup, and don't be afraid to experiment a little more with it!
Me at my 16th birthday dinner..see the cherry cola red hair?

Also, a few more things. Don't dye your hair red for the swim team for states. Eat yogurt. Try to like more fruit. Get in the habit of painting your nails...it just makes you look so much more polished (get it??). Most of all, just BE YOURSELF!

Love
Older and a little bit wiser Meghan

What would you tell your younger self?

P.S. I took the weekend off from my computer...hence the reason why I slacked on posts! Back on track now for the last few days of #Blogtober14! Also don't laugh too hard at these pictures!

Tell me about it, stud.

Thursday, October 9, 2014

The only thing I have ever stolen in my life was the VHS tape of "Grease" when I was four years old from my great-aunts house. While it wasn't a serious crime, it was something that shaped my Halloween costume for next couple years. While other girls wanted to be princesses or witches or whatever else girls want to dress up as at four, I was infatuated with Sandy. I was fully decked out with the 50's style scarf, a letterman jacket (from my mom!), and the poodle skirt, except I didn't like dogs at the time so I had a cat put on it instead...
I look just like Olivia Newton John, right??

I laugh hard watching the movie now because there are so many comments and themes in the movie that just went completely over my head...At four years old, I just cared about the pretty skirts and the singing and the dancing (yes, I knew the lyrics then and I still know them today)!

I think I am nearly due for another reprise of Sandy for Halloween...maybe even rebel Sandy at the end of the movie? With John as the handsome and charismatic Danny Zuko? I think I would have to sing "You're the One I Want" on repeat while wearing the costume, but John admittedly has a great falsetto voice, so I think its a sign that we were meant to be (Danny and Sandy, that is).

Do I have any other Sandys out there? Please tell me you all love Grease too!

So say I won the lottery...

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

HAPPY OCTOBER EVERYONE! I just want to thank Helene from Helene in Between and Taylor from The Daily Tay for coming up with the great prompts for #Blogtober14. I can't wait to see what the month brings!

While starting to write this, I can't help but sing "If I Had A Million Dollars" by the Barenaked Ladies...did anyone else have that problem? Except right now that the national Powerball jackpot is estimated to be about $50 million, so quite a bit more than one million. If somehow I was lucky enough to win all that dough, I would do the obvious things like give to charity/pay off everything for everyone in my family/go on vacation/put a chunk of it into strategic investments to make it last as long as possible (you didn't think it was going to get this technical, did ya?). However, I don't think this post was meant for writing about the obvious things we would do, so I'll tell you some of the not so obvious things I would do with the money.

-Buy a panini maker
-Take cooking lessons to teach me the best way to make chicken
-Take baking lessons and learn how to make fondant/make cool looking cakes
-Make my own wine (every part from stomping the grapes to bottling)
-Buy Photoshop and learn how to use it
-Go on a book buying spree
-Invest in a DSLR camera to add better pictures to this blog
-Upgrade to the full version of Picmonkey.com
-Buy something from Etsy.com
-Splurge on a Kate Spade purse
-Buy a Fitbit so I know how much I am walking during work/clinical
-Go to the Farmer's Market more to support local farms
-Embark on a fishing excursion
-Start a YouTube channel
-Take private makeup lessons
-Craft all the things I've pinned on Pinterest
-Attend a national nursing convention

What would you do if you won the lottery?

You've cat to be kitten me...

Thursday, September 25, 2014

Finally my cat obsession sneaks out on to this blog...Its been hard hiding it these few months! Here are some cat pins I found on Pinterest that made me seriously laugh out loud (sometimes while I'm in class, which is bad).

I hope these gave you a little laugh to help you through the end of the week!

What do you think of cats?
