Is it too late to talk about Memorial Day?

Friday, May 29, 2015

Yay for Friday! I hope you all had great weeks and have even better weekend plans. Lets get on with five on friday!

Memorial Day // I wanted to do a recap of my MDW, but work exhaustion caught up with me (see below!) John and I went with our friends down to their family's lake house on Cape Cod. It was a little chilly, but it was nice to get away for the weekend. We went out to eat, down to the beach, and did a bit of shopping. My favorite part was driving through the neighborhoods with houses right on the water. The homes were gorgeous to look at and I could only dream to set foot in one someday! We had a great time overall. I love little weekend trips because its easier to do a few spread out through the summer, rather than try to take off a whole week of work to do a full vacation.

Work // Today is the end of my second week of work at my new job (tech in an emergency department) and I am loving it so far. Its very similar to my job last summer, but the commute is much shorter...yay for saving gas and time!

Sunscreen Scare // Came across this page and was freaked out that all the sunscreen I use could be dangerous...but then looked further into the issue of oxybenzone in sunscreen and it results are very inconclusive so who knows!

Jack Rogers // Found this babies on sale and couldn't resist! I am slowly breaking them in and I am finding them to be so comfortable. Do you have a pair and love them?

Some funnies from the weekend //

Have a great weekend!

Happy 1st Birthday!

Right now i'm sitting in the same exact place where I first hit publish a year ago and I remember being so nervous about pressing that orange button on Blogger. I don't know what I thought was going to happen...Would people laugh at me for my writing? Would anyone even read what I had written? Did I care what people thought? I think its hard to take on a completely "don't give a damn" attitude about people judging you, and throughout blogging I have learned that I don't care if they dislike what I write, but I care if they enjoy it. I want to make people laugh and I want to maybe even inspire and make a positive impact on other people. I think I have made a few of you laugh, but I am still working on the inspiration bit!

Here's a little look back on the first year of Me as Meghan:

My very first post "The First, and hopefully not Last" has 7 views, and I think I am okay with that considering it was just my pointless rambling and there were no pictures. I think that if I were to write a "first post" again, it would definitely be similar to what I wrote a year ago. Thats a comforting thought because it means that my blog hasn't diverged off of what I originally wanted it to be.

My most popular post this year was "Best Movies of 2014", which is funny because I have such a weird taste in movies and I am sure no one actually agreed with me on the "best" title.

My top three favorite posts were:
3. D.C. Recaps One & Two

In searching back through old posts, I am happy with where I have been in the past year, and am excited to see where this year takes me with this blog. I am thankful to have all of you reading as you are all so encouraging and inspiring for me! My only regret about this blog is that I did not start it sooner. Since I can't rewind the past and start this earlier, I can only channel that wish into building a better blog for the future. Let that future start now!

Currently...(Finals Week Edition)

Monday, May 4, 2015

Ugh, I have been the worst blogger the past few weeks and I have finals to blame. However, I am forcing myself to take a break from my critical care nursing studies to catch up on my bloglovin' feed and read some weekend wrap up posts. Did you know those are one of my favorite kinds of posts? I am just so nosy and like to know what everyone else has done over the weekend! I spent most of my weekend studying, but it has paid off so far with a 96 on my pediatric nursing final. WOO! One down, two to go. My hardest is tomorrow, so I am only giving myself a half hour to write this post. Since I have been away from my beloved space here on the internet for a while, I thought I would do a little catch up piece!

Working on: Aside from exams, I am mentally working on two things...1) What to get my mom for Mother's Day, and 2) What to get John for graduation. Both are on Sunday and I am completely clueless about what to do.
Thankful for: JMU!

Listening to: My spring playlist. I have been jamming to it every morning on my way to campus and I am sure everyone who drives past me likes my karaoke show.
Watching: As a study break, I watch old episodes of Game of Thrones...It's better the second time around!
Anticipating: GOING HOME! Its starting to get a little humid here in Virginia so I look a bit like Monica in Barbados...
Eating: Honey-wheat pretzels. What was I thinking buying them? The bag is nearly gone.
Wearing: Yoga pants and a sweatshirt has become my studying uniform...The library keeps the AC at what feels like 55 degrees so even when its 80 degrees out, I am inside shivering!

One week until I start posting from home! I am beyond ready to get summer started. I hope you all have an amazing week!

Also, a huge thank you to Brittany @ Life Like a Twenty Something  and Lauren @ The Arizona Prepster for nominating me for the Liebster Award!

10 Ways to Procrastinate Studying for Finals

Monday, April 27, 2015

Since I have seen a lot of posts recently on surviving finals week... I thought I would give you some of my personal favorite procrastination tips just in case you aren't ready to spend endless hours in the library staring at a study guide with highlighter all over your hands and coffee spilled down your favorite sweatshirt. For those of you who are fortunate enough to be passed the college phase of your life, I want to know what your tips are for surviving finals week, especially when the forecast says its going to be 80 degrees and gorgeously sunny outside.

1. Watch Game of Thrones
and wonder how many times a month the actress who plays Daenerys Targaryen needs to dye her hair to keep it that blonde.

2. Scroll through your own Instagram
and reminisce about better times (like when you weren't in the library). Loved this pic from this past weekend at Foxfield!

3. Bake cookies
because calories don't count during finals.

4. Learn how to make a killer paper airplane
so your friend can literally send a guy her number from across the room.

5. Rearrange your Pinterest board

6. Watch the Bruce Jenner interview
and be amazed by some people's bravery to show their true selves to the world.

7. Try on your summer clothes
to just get you excited for summer...anyone else do this?

8. Flood your BFFs snapchat with very unflattering pics
does this need more explanation?

9. Take a nap
the answer for everything

10. Schedule out every hour of your day
and then ignore it because you are not yet at the panicking stage of finals week.

I hope this gave you some inspiration to go get procrastinating!

**disclaimer...I swear I'm a very good student and I will do fine on my finals! I love my classes and already have study guides for all of my exams next week and have started studying for them!**

3 Reasons Why This Weekend Was The Best.

Monday, April 20, 2015

1 // Formal
My favorite picture of the night!

Blurry bus pic!

Felt obligated to throw the "official" pic in...but I don't like it because we don't look centered!

I loved seeing the Washington Monument! We had a gorgeous view of The Capitol building but of course, I didn't snap a pic!

My sorority (Alpha Sigma Tau) had our spring formal this weekend! It was an "away" formal in Washington D.C. on the Spirit of Washington boat. It was a beautiful night to be outside so we spent most of our time on the deck enjoying the sights! I felt like a disco queen in my black jumpsuit with glittery gold pumps and gold jewelry. I wish I had taken more pictures, but I was swept up in the excitement of the night and only got a few shots. I was happy to have John by my side this weekend too..it had been a few weeks since we had seen each other and I had missed him terribly! Even when our bus from the hotel to the boat dock was lost and we thought we were going to miss the boat, he had me laughing which took my stress away! I am so thankful that he is in my life. Also, I am thankful that my sorority has provided me with so many cool experiences over the past four years and it was so bittersweet to have such a fantastic time for my last formal.

2 // Lilly for Target
With the excitement of formal this weekend, guess who forgot that the Lilly for Target line came out online in the middle of the night Sunday? Yep, me. So when my mom called yesterday morning to tell me that she had been to Target and had been able to get a few things from the line, I was beyond excited! She's mailing it down to me this week and I cannot wait to try it all on. Mom, if you're reading this...YOU'RE THE BEST, THANK YOU!

3 // Start of Good Times
This weekend kicked off a series of busy (good busy) weekends! The good company, good weather, and good memories made me so excited for everything that I have coming up. Next weekend, my best friend is coming to visit and we are headed to Foxfield, which is a horse race in Charlottesville! My mom is mailing my wide brimmed hat this week so I'll be all ready to go! In the weekends following the next one, I have fun sorority events, John's graduation and his graduation party. Its crazy that I have two more weeks of regular classes, a week of finals, and then I am home for the summer. BRING IT ON!

I hope you all have the best week and that your Monday goes by quickly! If you aren't having a good Monday and need a laugh...Here's a candid of me sharing my whiny realization that the worst part of wearing a one piece jumpsuit is having to go the bathroom. I am sure you can imagine why they would be so much trouble!

Instagram Favorites: Cats & Dogs

Thursday, April 16, 2015

As someone who is shamelessly obsessed with Instagram, I follow so many accounts of fashion/travel/food/beauty bloggers, as well as companies and artists. However, what pictures always make me smile are the cat and dog ones! I wanted to share a few of my favorite cat and dog Instagram accounts with you!

1. @tyrionpuff // Any animal named after a Game of Thrones character is bound to be a star...but what I love most about this account are all the captions.

2.  @darcythegoldenpup // I can't resist goldens!

 3. @pitterpatterfurryfeet // Even non-cat-lovers have to say that these are gorgeous cats!

4. @wilsonsworld2 // I wish this dog could be my best friend!

 5. @cutieandthebeast // Doesn't this make your heart melt?

6. @shimejiwasabi // They have a lot of cats AND a golden retriever...my dream.

Let's be thankful for motivational quotes on Pinterest.

Friday, April 10, 2015

Happy Friday! Another week is done...thank goodness. The closer we get to summer, the happier I feel myself becoming. I hope you all had a great week and plan to have an even better weekend. Today, I am talking about five favorite things I read/watched/did/etc. this week. Let's get on with it!

1. Coffee
Coffee was my best friend this week...with two tests this week demanding my attention, to say I was melted is an understatement.  We have a Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks on campus so I feel spoiled by my coffee options!

After reading this article, I am tempted to not let anyone borrow my brushes again!

3. Game of Thrones
Who else is anxiously awaiting Sunday for the start of GoT? I am waiting until next Friday when John and I are together to watch it, but I am just happy we are so close to a new season. I am so curious to see what happens with the Stark sisters and what will happen in King's Landing...trying to be a little vague so I don't spoil anything for anyone!

4. Motivational Quotes
Looking through Pinterest for motivational quotes this week definitely gave me a little extra "umph" to keeping studying. Here are a few favorites:

5. Weekend Plans
This weekend is the last weekend of the semester that is relaxed and without any strict plans. My only real plan is that I am being inducted into alumni status in my sorority on Sunday, but I don't really want that to happen...so I am pretending like its not going to happen! Other than that, I need to get laundry done, figure out some logistics/planning for my next few weekends, and relax after this crazy week!

What are you loving this week?

Linking up with these ladies this week!
