I am an expert...with procrastination

Friday, October 17, 2014

When I looked ahead on Wednesday to see what today's prompt was, I thought "Oh! I can totally start this prompt, I already know what I am going to write about". Then American Horror Story came on and I thought "You can bust out that post right after AHS is finished"...Present Meghan is always thinking that Future Meghan is some sort of superstar who is a proactive go-getter that actually sticks with the deadlines she gives herself. However, Present Meghan is lazy and tries to push off the work to another time (even if its fun work, like blogging).

After AHS was over, I just wanted to catch up on all your blogs and then while falling asleep I told myself, "you have all morning to work on that post, you can get it done before your afternoon class". So Thursday morning rolled around and I spent it watching YouTube videos on everyday fall makeup looks and wishing I had darker and more autumnal themed lipsticks. I thought "you can just work on it when you get home around 5, you'll have it done before dinner".
Instead of going right home to work on the post, I went to Target to buy dry shampoo (my life saver) and promptly got distracted by all the Halloween goodies in the $1 & $3 section of the store. I thought, "Yes you need those Halloween themed sprinkles, maybe they will help you become a baker?" I then spent 15 minutes searching for the perfect fall lipstick colors (and then Target was totally sold out of the ones I wanted). I was annoyed at this point because your girl just wanted some fancy fall lips, okay?? I went to the wine aisle (because I knew they wouldn't be out of wine), and promptly checked out. Do you think I left Target with the one thing I actually needed (dry shampoo)? Nope. Guess I'll have to go back to spend my life savings on more things I don't need.

Upon getting home, I had dinner and watched Halloweentown 3&4 (as I thought to myself, "Meghan, you have all night to write the post, just relax right now") so now here I sit at 9:30 with a glass a wine finally ready write this post. If this doesn't thoroughly convince you of my expertise in procrastination, I don't know what will.

What are you an expert in?

Dumbledore always knew what to say

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

I first want to start off this post by saying that I started writing a post Monday about my weekend and it was really funny (in my head) and then I did the worst thing a blogger can do while on a good writing groove, which is take a break. I picked it back up yesterday but the universe told me to just give up on that post. You might be asking how I knew that the universe was giving me such signals, and I'll tell you... I was innocently typing along when the C on my keyboard just went flying off my laptop and landed next to me. Thirty minutes of YouTube tutorials, sweat and swears later, the C was finally put back on by yours truly and I promptly went and deleted the post as I had no motivation to finish it anymore. However, my weekend with my family visiting was fantastic, and I was truly touched by all the comments on my post from Friday that wished me a great weekend with them!

For today's prompt we are talking about our favorite quotes. Like many of these prompts this month, I can't just pick one thing, so I'll give you a run down of my favorites.

My senior quote in my high school year book (and maybe my favorite quote overall, I know I picked one!) was...

This quote has always been my mantra during the bad times...I will always be thankful for Albus Dumbledore (and JK Rowling!) for bringing such wisdom into my life!

Here are a few others I love...

And obviously...

What are some of your favorite quotes?

I never thought blogging would...

Take up so much of my time
*
Teach me about HTML
*
Make me become a skilled GIF hunter
*
Cause me to see things differently (in a "how can I blog about this" way)
*
Have me be one of those people who laughs at their computer in public places
*
Introduce me to so many cool and amazing people
*
Wish I had the skills to design my room better
*
Actually inspire me to take better pictures
*
Want to improve my writing skills on a daily basis
*
Allow me to see what everyone else does on the weekends
*
Make me feel sad for not starting a blog sooner (like five years ago)
*
Become my reason for sanity lately

What surprised you about blogging?

P.S. My family is coming into town today for Parents Weekend so I think I am going to take the weekend off from posting since a huge test this week got in the way of me writing the posts early and just scheduling them. I am really bummed I didn't have enough time because I was going to be really proud of myself for blogging every day of October...but hey its okay, right?!

The only thing I have ever stolen in my life was the VHS tape of "Grease" when I was four years old from my great-aunts house. While it wasn't a serious crime, it was something that shaped my Halloween costume for next couple years. While other girls wanted to be princesses or witches or whatever else girls want to dress up as at four, I was infatuated with Sandy. I was fully decked out with the 50's style scarf, a letterman jacket (from my mom!), and the poodle skirt, except I didn't like dogs at the time so I had a cat put on it instead...
I look just like Olivia Newton John, right??

I laugh hard watching the movie now because there are so many comments and themes in the movie that just went completely over my head...At four years old, I just cared about the pretty skirts and the singing and the dancing (yes, I knew the lyrics then and I still know them today)!

I think I am nearly due for another reprise of Sandy for Halloween...maybe even rebel Sandy at the end of the movie? With John as the handsome and charismatic Danny Zuko? I think I would have to sing "You're the One I Want" on repeat while wearing the costume, but John admittedly has a great falsetto voice, so I think its a sign that we were meant to be (Danny and Sandy, that is).

Do I have any other Sandys out there? Please tell me you all love Grease too!

Dear 31 year old Meghan,

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

I hope you have great hair, and you are living someplace that doesn't have humidity so you never have to worry about it being poofy. I wish a lot of things for you, and I hope you don't mind that I started with the most superficial of my wishes (I know you pretty well, and I don't think you'll mind). I wonder if by now you will have gone back to school to get your master's in nursing and become a family nurse practitioner. You always planned on doing that! As far as nursing goes, I am really curious to know if you were able to find a job right after graduation (please let me know so I can stop worrying about it). I bet you were a kick-ass nurse and are an even better NP.
I bet you and John had a medium sized wedding at home in Maine. Maybe on the water? You must have spent the entire time dancing with John because thats one of your favorite things to do together. I wonder if you wore a dress that I pinned on Pinterest or if the style changed so you had something different. I'm sure you had someone do you hair, but refused to let someone else touch your makeup because you are too much of a control freak and know exactly how you want it done (I know you spent weeks practicing the wedding makeup look). I wonder if you bawled during the ceremony or if you were able to pull it together and not act like the cry baby that you are.
What if you have a kid right now? What if you have two or three? I know you love being a mother because you love children in general, so having your own will just put you over the moon. I bet before the first kid was born, you typed out a near manuscript comparing the research of parenting theories and analyzing which methods are best to use. Before the second kid was born, I am sure you threw that book out the window and just went with your gut. I hope you live five minutes away from your parents so their grandkids can see them all the time (but really so you can see them all the time).
Over everything I hope and dream for you, I ultimately just hope that you are happy and satisfied with our life and were able to cope with all the curveballs that life inevitably throws at us.

Love you the most,
21 year old Meghan

What would you say in a letter to yourself in 10 years?

P.S. Forgive me for not including any pictures in this post...I just think it fits the letter format better without them!

Best/Worst Vacation

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Soo there is a deep dark secret about to come out right now---I love Disney World. Okay maybe that is not as exciting or dark as you would have hoped so sorry about that. I love everything about it...the rides, the food, the hotels, the characters, the magical feeling that you get once you are on Disney property. Its been 3.5 years since I have been there and I am dying to go back!
My best vacation was when I went to Disney World my senior year of high school. I was probably more excited than both of my little brothers combined even though they were at a way more appropriate age to be excited about a theme park centered around a mouse. One of the best parts of this trip was that I got to bring a friend...so obviously I chose John.
Stealing me back from Prince Charming

I think I was probably the happiest person in the happiest place on earth.

Except when Cinderella tried to take John...I had to tell her to back off

I think we did about every ride in the all of the parks (except I chickened out on Tower of Terror...too scary). I love my family and I love John so having everyone together for a whole week was a dream come true and its one that I wish I could relive over and over. If I never have a vacation that was as good as that one, I honestly think I would be okay with it. Its really not about where I was or what I was doing but its really about how I felt the whole time...so happy to be with my loved ones.

As far as the worst vacation goes, I know we are probably supposed write about that vacation where we drove across the country (with our fair share of misadventures) to a theme park only to find out that it is closed, so Dad had to buy a gun and force the security guard to let us in. But I don't have any vacation stories like that, so sorry guys!
This is my family's favorite movie, along with Christmas Vacation---they are quoted regularly in the house

Tell me about your best/worst vacation!
